Music Instrumentals? What are they? What are some good examples? This post is for those of you that are awakening to the vast world of instrumentals. We are going to cover what they are and some of my personal insight on why I think they are so popular.
“Satch Boogie” – Joe Satriani: He made instrumental Guitar Rock popular in the 80’s and this is probably Satriani’s signature song. It’s on his breakthrough album “Surfing with the Alien” and features plenty of catchy riffs and leads from the master!
Personally, I think that as long as people are sensible about it all, it’s absolutely fine. If anything, there should be websites promoting ‘Remixes’, and ‘Mashups’, and that sort of style. After all, the change in modern retro lounge music has proved that it’s WHAT YOU WANT. Surely websites that provide such a service are just giving people what they want? I struggle to believe how that could be a bad thing.
Think about the effect music has on you when you are watching a movie. It completely sets the mood, the tone, and brings out the emotions in the audience. Music will make you scared, it will make you laugh, it will bring out your sentimental side during a romantic flick, in sad movies the right track will get the tears flowing and the noses blowing. Music is very powerful, and it triggers huge emotional response in all of us.
While having your website in your signature is okay, in most cases you won’t want to put a link to your retro lounge instrumental in the body of your first email, unless it’s asked for. Many times, it’s best to ask permission to send your music first, as that will help develop a relationship with the person you’re submitting your music to.
Are you sending your music to a music supervisor for a film or TV placement? Are you sending it to a label for a record deal? Are you sending it to a venue owner to get a gig? Are you sending it to a critic for a review?
Ultimately, having good, high quality instrumentals is critical to an artists’ success in the industry. Hot beats along with good songwriting can result in the production of beautiful songs. With the right marketing and promotion, these songs can produce record sales for the recording artist and help them become successful.
